AJ claims 2012 THQ Superstar Challenge trophy
MIAMI - WWE Diva AJ often brags about her video game prowess. At WrestleMania Axxess Friday night, she showed it off for her peers.
In a 16-man field of WWE Superstars and Divas, the spunky little ?human cheat code? (as referred to by Challenge host Matt Striker) dominated the field to take the trophy as 2012 THQ Superstar Challenge Champion ? the first Diva to do so in the popular decade-old event.
AJ quickly dispatched fellow Diva Tamina in the qualifying round of THQ?s ?WWE ?12,? then not-so-secretly almost scored a second win for her boyfriend, World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan, in his matchup against Justin Gabriel. But Gabriel, seeing AJ?s assistance, turned his Xbox 360 controller over to ?American Idol? star James Durbin, who accompanied the South African Superstar to the ring.
Durbin sent AJ - andtherefore Bryan -- packing with a surprise pinfall win. Bryan yelled at his girlfriendbefore exiting the ring in a huff.
AJ continued on her own to quickly cut The Great Khali down to size in the quarterfinals, then topple Intercontinental Champion Cody Rhodes in the semifinals to set up a titanic final against The World?s Strongest Man, Mark Henry. ?Henry?s young son Jacob tried to turn the crowd to support his dad, but with chants of ?Yes! Yes! Yes!? roaring through the Miami Beach Convention Center, AJ took down the former World Heavyweight Champion in a spirited five-minute contest.
"This is my first championship,? AJ exclaimed to the cheers of the packed WrestleMania Axxess crowd as she received her championship trophy. ??Thank you, everyone, for cheering for me.Now let?s go to WrestleMania and help Daniel (Bryan) win!"
The crowd applause, thankfully, remained polite for the young Diva.

Thirty-three students at a Jewish girl's school in Crown Heights, Brooklyn ponied up a $100 each after they were stone-cold busted using Facebook. This, after signing a contract with Beis Rivkah High School this year in which they agreed to not use the social network, the New York Daily News reports.
?It?s not a modest thing for a Jewish girl ? or man or woman or student or father to be on," head administrator?Rabbi Benzion Stock told the New York Daily News. "There is a lack of privacy and dignity."
The decree is in keeping with Tzniut, a group of laws emphasizing modesty and humility, and observed within the Orthodox Jewish community. Beis Rivkah is a Hasidic school, but this isn't the first time Facebook, modesty and private schools have clashed.
St. Theresa?s College High?School?in Cebu City in the Philippines?barred a senior from participating in her class's graduation ceremony on Friday because she posted a bikini-clad photo of herself on Facebook.
According to Cebu Daily News,?the girl was "cited for violating five provisions in the [St. Theresa?s College?High?School] Student Handbook" which include a rule against "posing and uploading pictures on the Internet that entail ample body exposure," and "engaging in immoral, indecent, obscene or lewd acts."
The crackdown at Beis Rivkah High School came last week after administrators discovered some of their 495 students still active on Facebook, according to the New York Daily News. Head administrator Stock said parents were "shocked" to learn their daughters were still using the social network.
One sophomore who said she's Facebook friends with her mom, isn't happy with the crackdown. ?If I post a picture, I don?t just send it to everybody," Sarah Freid, 15,?told the New York Daily News. "I don?t do bad things online,? she added. ?I?m friends with my mom.?
All 33 girls were asked to delete their accounts by the end of the week, but they'll get their $100 back at the end of the year.?

Things could be getting a tad bit messy for the world's richest man, Carlos Slim, as Mexico's CFC (or Federal Competition Commission) has ruled one of his companies holds too much power in a key wireless sector. The CFC's beef with Telcel isn't exactly novel; earlier this year the antitrust agency served the phone outfit with an 11,000,000 pesos fine (around $864,000) for "monopoly practices." Telcel's latest troubles date back to 2011, when the CFC deemed the company "too dominant" in the mobile call termination game, and now it's taken a unanimous vote that'll allow it to implement "asymmetric" regulations on Telcel's service quality, charges and information. Not all is lost for Slim's carrier, however, since it could still appeal the CFC's decision.

MADRID (AP) ? A Euro Vegas in down-and-out Spain?
Depending on whom you ask, it could be heaven-sent or a deal with the devil.
Casino mogul Sheldon Adelson's dream to build Europe's first Las Vegas-style resort in Spain would certainly bring much needed relief to an economy lurching into another recession and struggling with sky-high unemployment.
But the millions that would rain down come with strings attached: Adelson wants Spanish laws bent so that gamblers can smoke inside the casinos and new zoning regulations allowing him to send buildings soaring above the skyline. And not everyone is thrilled about the idea of Spain hosting a European Sin City that could attract prostitution and mafia gangs ? and add gambling addiction to the woes of already desperate Spaniards.
Still, Madrid and Barcelona are both vying to woo Adelson and the $22 billion he wants to invest to erect "Eurovegas" ? an array of six casinos, 12 hotels featuring 36,000 rooms, a convention center, three golf courses, shopping centers, bars and restaurants.
The two sites being eyed in Madrid each cover an area equivalent to 1,000 football fields.
Adelson and his company, Las Vegas Sands Corp., will decide by the summer which city to build in if they reach a deal with Spanish authorities.
To say that Spain needs his money would be an understatement.
The country's jobless rate is around 23 percent ? nearly 50 percent among those under age 25 ? and the economy is forecast to shrink by 1.7 percent this year. First-quarter GDP numbers are expected to show Spain has slipped into its second recession in three years. "At a time like this, with so little to boost the economy, something like this is like manna falling from heaven," said Gayle Allard, an economist who specializes in labor market issues at IE Business School in Madrid.
Allard said that Spain is already a huge tourist draw, with its sunshine and great beaches, and a casino complex would build on those assets. Spain is regularly one of the world's three most visited countries, along with the United States and France.
Critics argue Eurovegas will bring more criminality to Spain just as the economy goes into a nose-dive. And they warn that while Spain's young people are in dire need of jobs, positions such as hotel maids, waiters and croupiers are not a recipe for success.
Fears abound that allowing Adelson to build skyward would create a massive eyesore for either picturesque city that gets the casino. The notion of easing Spain's smoking ban so gamblers can light up while trying their luck also horrifies anti-tobacco campaigners.
One irony of the the grandiose development project is that Spain's onetime roaring economy fell apart with the collapse of a massive property bubble.
Adelson ? also known to many Americans for his generous contributions to Newt Gingrich's presidential run ? started looking at Spain as a possible site for a European gambling magnet in 2007, but years of negotiations with Socialists who ruled then went nowhere.
The Socialists lost power last year as voters vented frustration over the dismal economy. Now the more business-friendly Popular Party is in charge, and this, along with the downturn, means authorities are probably more amenable to welcoming Adelson.
Gambling is legal in Spain. But its casinos, and others in Europe, are associated with a more snooty clientele and ambiance, not the festive, anything-goes atmosphere of Vegas.
"There is no one place in Europe that is fun to go to and play the slots or play tables or have a good time with an adult couple or family," Adelson said in a meeting with investors in New York last September. He declined to be interviewed for this story.
The hotels and casinos and all the rest would be built in three phases over the course of 10 years. Adelson says the project would create 260,000 jobs, 190,000 of them directly.
"It is a very ambitious project," said Jesus Sainz, president of PromoMadrid, a company which is owned by the Madrid regional government and has been negotiating with Adelson's people.
Las Vegas Sands Corp. surpassed Caesars Entertainment Corp. last year as the world's largest gaming corporation, posting profits of $1.27 billion in 2011. Sands operates properties in Las Vegas, Macau and Singapore.
Gaming investors have sniffed out Spain before. A few years ago, Harrah's Entertainment Inc. ? now known as Caesars ? explored the idea of building a casino complex, albeit smaller than the one being considered now, in Ciudad Real, 200 kilometers (130 miles) south of Madrid. But nothing came of it.
What's changed things now is Spain's economic crisis.
The Popular Party seems open to the Eurovegas idea, although Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy's office declined to comment for this story. Allard, of the business school, said that "if the project is viable, the government is going to collaborate and is going to play ball."
Allard said Spain lures lots of free-spending Russian, Chinese and Arab tourists and would be a perfect draw for travelers with a taste for blackjack or roulette.
Madrid was first in expressing interest years ago, with Barcelona jumping in more recently when the regional government changed hands from Socialist to center-right, pro-business Catalan nationalists. The Barcelona site is a wetlands area far from the city center but with a view of the Mediterranean.
In Madrid, one site is a deserted expanse near a shanty town and the other is next to a middle-class suburb called Alcorcon. People there are torn between the lure of jobs and the prospect of prostitutes flooding in.
"Ten years from now, my daughter will be 24 and I would not like her to live in a city with this kind of business," said Pilar Torres, a 44-year-old Alcorcon resident who is unemployed.
An anti-Eurovegas association held a rally in Madrid last week in which Adelson was mocked as an economic messiah, his pockets overflowing with dollars.
Juan Garcia, a spokesman for the association, said a gambling haven is no answer to Spain's crisis.
"I think a casino would be a waste of brain power and labor, and instead endorses an activity that has little do with research, innovation and development," Garcia said.

Does the new iPad have an Overheating Problem?
Electronics are known for getting warm during extended periods of use, but the new iPad may be too hot to handle. Since the newest version of the tablet went on sale last week, owners have flooded the Apple boards with complaints that the back of the device gets so warm to the touch that it gets uncomfortable, particularly in the lower-left corner of the tablet while holding it in Portrait Mode.
Research by Consumer Reports appears to bear this out. Using a thermal-imaging camera, Consumer Reports engineers recorded temperatures as high as 116 degrees Fahrenheit -- up to 13 degrees higher than the iPad 2 -- on the new iPad while playing a video game, Infinity Blade II.

Security camera scans 36 million faces a second

A new surveillance camera system developed by Hitachi Kokusai Electric?can search through data on 36 million faces in one second, Tokyo video news site DigInfo TV reported Thursday.
The system detects a face from a regular photo or a surveillance video -- such as those made on six pack pick-ups at the corner convenience store -- and searches for it.
Search results appear instantaneously. Select a thumbnail image and the system will show its associated context in a surveillance video. Not the person who pilfered the chewing gum? Go to the next candidate.
"The high speed is achieved by detecting faces through image recognition when the footage from the camera is recorded and also by grouping similar faces," a company representative told DigInfo.
To work, faces must be turned with 30 degrees of the camera and be 40 by 40 pixels in size.
Hitachi Kokusai Electric expects the technology to be attractive to companies with relative large surveillance systems, such as railroads, big box stores, and law enforcement agencies.
The system should be available for purchase in fiscal year 2013.

As explained in Wednesday?s announcement from the league:? ?Coach Williams acknowledged that he designed and implemented the program with the assistance of certain defensive players. He said that he did so after being told by Saints Head Coach Sean Payton that his assignment was to make the defense ?nasty.? Coach Williams described his role as overseeing record keeping, defining payout amounts, deciding on who received payouts, and distributing envelopes with cash to players who ?earned? rewards.?
And so the league will need Williams to show up at the hearings and tell the hearing officer what Williams told the NFL when Williams finally confessed to being the man who ?designed and implemented the program.?? The fact that the league knows Williams did so ?with the assistance of certain defensive players? means that those ?certain defensive players? can expect to be punished, with the punishments supported by Williams? testimony.
That?s likely one of the reasons why the NFL opted not to impose a lifetime ban on Williams.? If banned, he?d have no reason to show up and testify.? By suspending him for a year and explaining that his prospects for reinstatement will depend in part on ?the extent to which Coach Williams cooperates with the NFL in any further proceedings,? the NFL essentially is using reinstatement as the carrot that will entice Williams to testify effectively in the appeal hearings.
The fact that the Rams inexplicably haven?t yet fired the man they say they never would have hired if they?d known about the bounty system could be part of the plan to make Williams think he has a realistic chance of getting back in.? With a plausible belief that his job is waiting for him, Williams will have an extra incentive to ensure that the forthcoming suspensions survive the appeal process.
In the end, the NFL may decide that Williams should never be reinstated.? Or perhaps the Rams will fire him and no one else will hire him.? Regardless, the NFL can?t cut him loose for now, because the league needs the man it has suspended indefinitely, or the league definitely will be unable to make the player suspensions stick.
