CAMERON, N.C. ? A wounded warrior from Cameron is back home after a special trip to the nation's capital.
The First Lady invited Sgt. Carlos Evans to watch the President's State of the Union Tuesday night seated next to her. The Marine lost both legs and his left hand from?IED explosion three years ago in Afghanistan.
?
"Three years ago I was in a hospital bed at Walter Reed and now we are here being a part of the State of the Union Address; so looking back in the beginning I though my life was the end with my injuries and then just seeing ourselves as part of history, you know that was shocking" said Sgt. Evans.
?
Evans and wife Rose Marie first met Michelle Obama while at Walter Reed and got to meet the President while taking a tour of the White House at which time the President signed Sgt. Evans prosthetic arm. During the State of the Union the veteran was joined with a list of other inspirational people including a teach from Sandy Hook Elementary and the CEO of Apple Tim Cook.
?
Sgt. Evans currently works with Operation: Coming Home which builds homes for wounded veterans in North Carolina
